Wuthering Waves Yangyang Xuanling Guide

How Yangyang Xuanling’s two-stance kit works, what to level first, which Echoes and weapons to use, and how to rotate her with current team options. This guide is based on pre-release media-server footage, so details may change before launch.

Yangyang Xuanling is a Havoc main DPS with two stances, and you want to spend her Forte bar, swap into the matching Skill and Heavy Attack follow-up, then use Liberation to refill and repeat. Build her around the Song of Feathered Trace set, crit-focused stats, Azure Oath if you have it, and current heavy-attack teammates such as Chisa, Rebecca, or other temporary buffers until the roster settles.

Kit Breakdown

Yangyang Xuanling uses a two-stance kit structured around swaps between her Azure sword stance and feather sword stance via her Skill (both basic and Forte Skill). When she enters the field, her top Forte bar (melody) is full; Basic attacks consume it, transforming it into the feather bar, after which Skill spends the bar for a plume. At two plumes, the bottom Forte bar fills and enables Forte Heavy Attack, applying Havoc Bane. The feather version of this attack is slower and deals more damage. Liberation drains the melody bar and instantly awards a plume, allowing another Skill into Forte Heavy loop. Her Intro skill gives a plume and one Havoc Bane stack, while her Outro skill buffs Havoc damage for teammates able to inflict Havoc Bane. Her first passive scales Havoc damage amplification with Havoc Bane stacks, and her second passive makes her Ultimate apply maximum Havoc Bane stacks.

Talent Priority

Yangyang’s talents are upgraded with Forte as the highest priority, followed by Liberation. Basic talents are optional for extra damage, while Intro and Skill upgrades should be considered last. Her damage mainly revolves around the Forte and Liberation loop, so resource investment should focus there first.

  • Forte: Upgrade first.
  • Liberation: Upgrade second.
  • Basics: Upgrade for additional damage after Forte/Liberation.
  • Intro & Skill: Upgrade last.

steps

  1. Intro Skill: Enter the field to start with a plume and Havoc Bane stack.
  2. Basics: Use basic attacks (1–4) to spend the top Forte bar.
  3. Skill: Once the top bar is empty, press Skill to consume the feather bar and gain a plume.
  4. Forte Heavy Attack: Use the matching Forte Heavy (depends on your stance).
  5. Combos: Continue with Basics as needed.
  6. Liberation: Cast Liberation to drain the melody bar and gain a plume.
  7. Skill → Forte Heavy: Immediately use Skill and Forte Heavy again.
  8. End Rotation: End the rotation here; do not overcomplicate stance swaps.
  • If you mistime the stance, use whichever Heavy Attack matches your current stance; the difference between them is minor for most players.

Echoes and Stats

A game guide slide shows a comparison table for echo sets at the top and an open Song of Feathered Trace set page in the center with costs and set bonuses.

Echo Set Effect Main Echo Setup Main Stats (4/3/1 cost) Notable Notes
Song of Feathered Trace Crit Rate + Heavy Attack DMG Thousand-Puppet Pavilion 43311 Crit Damage (4), Havoc (3), Attack% (1) Avoid crit rate overcapping; best set for Yangyang Xuanling
Havoc Eclipse Havoc DMG Thousand-Puppet Pavilion 43311 - Temporary option while farming

Other notes:

  • Crit Rate main stat is viable if your weapon does not provide it.
  • Attack Percent is a viable 4-cost main stat due to her kit’s crit saturation.
  • Only one Attack Percent 3-cost echo is recommended; two are discouraged.
  • Substats: prioritize Crit Rate, then Crit Damage, Attack Percent, Heavy Attack Damage, and Flat Attack.
  • Energy regen needs are low, but 22% is a future-proof target for flexibility.

comparison

Song of Feathered Trace

  • Highest performance
  • Avoid crit rate overcapping from set bonus
  • Heavy Attack and Crit Rate focused

Havoc Eclipse

  • Use if Song of Feathered Trace not yet available
  • Havoc DMG oriented but drops performance

Weapons

Weapon Type Relative Damage Rotation Note
Azure Oath 5-Star Highest -
Emerald Sentence 5-Star Next best Cast Echo at rotation start for max value
Emerald of Genesis 5-Star Standard fallback -
Looming Gloss 4-Star Decent -
  • Azure Oath is the clear best-in-slot with a notable gap above alternatives.
  • Emerald Sentence is strong and a preferred substitute; using it, cast your Echo at the start of the rotation.
  • Emerald of Genesis provides solid performance as a standard five-star.
  • Looming Gloss is a workable four-star but falls behind in output.

comparison

Azure Oath

  • Highest damage, tailor-made for Yangyang Xuanling

Emerald Sentence

  • Strong substitute
  • Cast Echo first in rotation

Emerald of Genesis

  • Reliable five-star fallback

Looming Gloss

  • Usable four-star, but performance trails premium choices

Sequences and Teams

Yangyang’s sequence upgrades and team options should be prioritized based on current roster and investment goals.

Sequence and Team Choices

Choose Sequence 3 if you want a major damage breakpoint and the ability to stack Havoc Bane to six without Chisa; this is described as the big milestone. Sequence 1 and 2 both add incremental damage and gameplay quality (interrupt resistance, instant Forte Heavy for overworld). Sequence 4 offers party Attack and sets up the path to Sequence 6, which is another substantial boost. Sequence 6 doubles her damage from baseline.

Heavy Attack damage amplifiers are her top teammates, as most of her damage is heavy attack-based. Current recommended buffers are Linna, Rebecca, Yunna, Firlova, and Mortefi. Chisa stands out for raising Havoc Bane stacks on enemies, significantly improving Yangyang’s output. Healers like Mornye, Shorekeeper, or Verena can fill a slot if Chisa is unavailable; Shorekeeper is noted as usable but less optimal due to crit oversaturation. Future options such as Swey Swey and replacement buffers are expected as the roster evolves.

Pre-Release Note

Also worth knowing

  • Kit numbers may differ at launch: The passive calculation and values shown in media-server footage are not guaranteed to match the live release, so expect some variation.
