Neverness to Everness Zankou Guide: Builds and Rotation

How Zankou’s two forms, golden skill, ult variations, and team rotations work in Neverness to Everness 1.3, plus which builds, arcs, stats, and awakenings matter most.

Zankou is straightforward as a main DPS: start in reality form, use basics to charge golden reality skill, swap into illusion form, wait for the pink skill, and use both ultimate casts. Her best value comes from keeping Scorch and her team buffs active, then repeating her simple rotation while picking the right arc, stats, teammates, and awakenings.

Combat kit

Zankou starts every battle in reality form. Her basics can hit up to five times, and the fifth hit pulls nearby enemies. While in reality form, she gains the Hunt buff for extra damage. The regular reality skill is always available and swaps her to illusion form, but her golden reality skill is usually preferred: it applies five Heartwrench stacks (a damage over time effect that lasts 30 seconds), breaks more gauge, and extends Hunt’s duration.

After swapping, Zankou enters illusion form. Basics now hit up to four times and spread DOT effects, including Heartwrench, to nearby enemies. The Delusion buff increases crit damage for all DOTs dealt by the team. Basic attacks in illusion form count as follow-up attack damage, relevant for certain synergies.

Her illusion redirect skill has a short window where it becomes the pink enhanced version (pink skill), which deals more damage, applies additional Heartwrench, and unlocks her enhanced ultimate. The regular ultimate is a single split cast, but the enhanced version becomes a two-part combo: the first “Dangle” cast inflicts five Vile Ash stacks, the second is a stronger split follow-up. Zankou’s Scorch and DOT effects always scale off her own stats when she triggers them, ensuring her personal investment carries team value.

Skill priority

prerequisites

  • Combat passives: Unlock both first as the foundation.
  • Basic attack: Level as a priority source of damage.
  • Ultimate: Prioritize alongside basic attack.
  • Redirect skill: Next in priority.
  • Support skill: Leave at level 1 if short on resources.

comparison

Main DPS build

  • Crimson set recommended.
  • Without signature arc, use crit rate main stat to cover the missing crit rate from the arc.
  • Stack crit rate in substats to reach roughly 70%, then focus on crit damage and universal damage bonus.

Low-investment Scorch-enabler build

  • Use Lost Radiance as the arc set.
  • Stack crit damage and cycle intensity in substats.
  • Designed for low-investment A0 Zankou, especially in Lacrimosa teams.
  • Pivot to main DPS build after obtaining more awakenings.

Team rotations

steps

  1. Hexed team rotation: Start with Zankou, switch to Daffodil for Scorch trigger, rotate through Sakiri and Haniel’s skills and ultimates, return to Zankou, build golden skill, swap, wait for pink skill, and cast enhanced two-part ultimate.
  2. Break team rotation: Build team around break intensity (Adler, Sakiri, Daffodil). Begin as above, but emphasize break efficiency and repeat the loop until the enemy falls.
  3. Dual DPS rotation with Lacrimosa: Use support setup, swap between Lacrimosa and Zankou so Zankou triggers Scorch, enters illusion form, and refreshes DOTs.
  4. Lacrimosa main DPS rotation: Start with Zankou early for Scorch and Lost Radiance, then shift focus to Lacrimosa’s field time. Zankou is used intermittently to reapply effects.
  5. Timing tip: Swapping at the right basic attack is key (switch during Zankou’s third basic for uninterrupted chains and instant golden skill reload).

Awakenings

Zankou’s awakenings each add distinct utility:

  • Awakening 1: Spreads DOT effects further and turns Hunt and Delusion buffs into persistent effects, enhancing sub-DPS and rotation flexibility.
  • Awakening 2: Introduces Kindling and boosts ultimates’ final damage with a multiplier on consumption.
  • Awakening 3: Provides resistance to interruption and healing tied to buffs, improving comfort.
  • Awakening 4: Makes Dangle ultimate easier to access and combines with Awakening 2’s multiplier for substantial damage.
  • Awakening 5: Golden skill immediately breaks the enemy and amplifies ally break damage.
  • Awakening 6: Boosts the final hit of pink skill proportional to total DOT stacks.
  • Resonance upgrades: The A3 resonance raises skill levels and ultimate ratios, and the A6 resonance gives permanent attack and extra value for wave transfers.

Also worth knowing

  • Quest arc reward: The Great Thief arc can be obtained from a quest, allowing you to skip pulls or farming for it.
  • Hexed team substitute: Lacrimosa can replace Daffodil if you trigger Lacrimosa’s ult and skill before Zankou, so Zankou’s illusion basics can extend Lacrimosa’s Nightmare DOT.
  • Support role optimization: Attack buffs from some supports have less impact on Zankou because Scorch is not affected by attack, so priority goes to Scorch enhancement, resistance reduction, and break efficiency supports.
  • Break vs. Hexed flexibility: A low-investment main DPS Zankou can run with a Break team now, but a future Hexed team may become best-in-slot once missing supports are released.

FAQ

How do Zankou’s two forms and three ultimate variations work?

Zankou has a reality form with five-hit basics and a default ultimate, and an illusion form with four-hit basics that spread DOTs. Her three ultimate variations are the regular split cast, the enhanced two-part Dangle opener (after pink skill), and an enhanced split follow-up.

What is Zankou’s basic rotation in her main DPS playstyle?

The standard main DPS loop is: reality basics, unlock and use golden reality skill, illusion basics until pink skill, pink skill, then both ultimate casts. Repeat once her cycle energy is charged.

When should you use the golden reality skill instead of the normal reality skill?

Use golden reality skill whenever possible as it applies Heartwrench stacks, breaks more gauge, and sets up the illusion form rotation. Only use the regular reality skill if golden skill is not yet available.

What are the best arc and stat priorities for Zankou’s main DPS build?

For main DPS Zankou, use the crimson set. With her signature arc, pick crit damage or incantation bonus main stat; without it, prioritize crit rate as main stat. Aim for about 70% crit rate from substats, then stack crit damage and universal bonus.

Which team setups does this guide cover for Zankou?

The covered lineups are Hexed teams, Break teams, Zankou/Lacrimosa dual DPS, and Lacrimosa main DPS setups.

What do Zankou’s awakenings change, and which ones matter most?

Awakenings alter spread effects, ult and pink skill damage, comfort, break power, and DOT scaling. Awakenings 2, 4, and 5 especially boost team utility and Zankou’s burst potential.
